March 2007

Thank you so much for allowing us to be your very first guest in this lovely, newly decorated villa. We have enjoyed our 3+ weeks and made the most of our time I think. From enjoying leisurely mornings on the deck observing the various wildlife in the pond to biking the area. We enjoyed learning about the history here and wandering the cute shops in Red Fern and Sea Island Shops. Antiquing was great too with a number of shops in Brunswick and lunch at Christies. We made daily trips to the village where Gary did a “bit” of fly fishing off the rocks at the southern end of the island beyond the Maritime Museum while we caught rays in the sun on truly great beaches. Our most fun had to be riding our bikes on the hard-packed sand at low tide. We recommend taking the trolley tour for an overview. We waited until the last week, and I probably could have given it myself since we did so much touring, but the tour had a great southern “spin” on history, echoing the northern aggression! Those damn Yankees!

There are many fine galleries in the area and a very active arts group in St. Simons and Brunswick which had the Ritz bringing unique entertainment to the area. The Gypsy jazz group and the old Ritz theatre were outstanding! Highly recommend the Home and Garden Tour which included Sea Island Homes. A trip to Savannah is a must.

The history and beauty of Christ Church and Fort Frederica were enriching and nothing like strolling through beautiful old cemeteries. Lots of restaurants to choose from. Our favorite for lunch was Mullet Bay in the village (on the porch). For fun casual, Frankie Gs. For “wow” dinner and atmosphere: Halyards and Brunswick’s Cargot and Christies.

We have been smitten by the area and looking forward to returning in the future.
